Through the eyes of past masters from Michaelangelo to Pollock, these art classes will explore all sorts of interesting movements in Art History. Children will learn that not all art is representational and gain confidence to express their own ideas with a variety of materials and techniques such as collage, color mixing, sculpting, and others. The children will study and discuss the work of a famous artist or style of artwork (e.g Aboriginal Art) and then make a practical rendition of the work in either 2 or 3 dimensional form.

Instructor Helen Elliott has a bachelors degree in Art History from De Montford University in the UK and is a practicing artist specializing in oil painting. Helen works as head teacher and art specialist at Good Shepherd Early Childhood Center in Irvington and is the program director for RiverArts SummerArts Workshops. She has worked with children K-7 and adults through various organizations including The Irvington Children’s Center, Westchester Community College, WAEYC Workshops, RiverArts and through her private studio.
